Cherries: Howe wishes McQuoid well

BOSS Eddie Howe has described as a blow Josh McQuoid's departure to Millwall but also says his sale is another compliment to his emerging squad.[LNB] Howe saw McQuoid blossom under his tutelage with the striker bagging 12 goals in 17 games after being drafted in following Brett Pitman's exit in August.[LNB] Josh had been really important to us in recent weeks, said Howe. He scored a lot of goals and had done ever so well. He was a popular member of the squad as well so is going to be sorely missed.[LNB] It is a compliment and you only have to look at our scout list to see that a lot of people are coming to watch our players. That's great because it means the team is playing well and the club is doing well and, ultimately, that's what everyone wants.[LNB] The danger with that, of course, is that people will try to take your players. It has happened twice this season and that's the disappointing thing because we're trying to build a successful team. We're going to have to try to build another one but it's not easy. It is hard to find players that are good enough to do the job that the previous ones have done. But that's what we will endeavour to do.[LNB] Whenever a player leaves, it opens a door for someone else, like it did for Josh when Brett left. Other players will get an opportunity, that's the cycle and, hopefully, someone will come in and do well.[LNB] Howe, who gave McQuoid a new contract in the summer, confirmed he had tried to persuade the newly capped Northern Ireland international to stay.[LNB] Speaking to the Echo last night, Howe said: I had a chat with Josh last night. He's a great lad with a great attitude but he just expressed a desire to leave, which, having been a player, I can understand. He can make his own decisions and he goes with our best wishes.[LNB] McQuoid's departure has left Howe even shorter on numbers ahead of Cherries' FA Cup second round clash at Notts County tomorrow (3pm).[LNB] And with Shaun Cooper (calf), Ryan Garry (shin) and Marc Pugh (leg) all nursing injuries, Howe was planning to explore the possibility of re-registering assistant manager Jason Tindall.[LNB] Cherries will be attempting to reach the third round for the first time in five years.[LNB]
