Cherries face a battle to retain the services of sought after boss Eddie Howe after speculation over his future intensified.[LNB] Howe is expected to take charge of Cherries today for the home clash against Plymouth Argyle, but his future beyond his 99th game as manager looks increasingly uncertain.[LNB] The highly rated young boss, who is understood to have held talks with Crystal Palace, was last night reported to have received an offer from the Eagles to become George Burley's successor.[LNB] Reports in south London also suggested that the 33-year-old, six months into a three-year contract at Dean Court, had emerged as a leading candidate for another club.[LNB] He is rated by bookmakers as the third favourite to take over at Cherries' League One rivals Charlton Athletic. Championship outfits Burnley and Ipswich Town are also looking to fill managerial vacancies.[LNB] Howe has previously turned down moves to Peterborough United and Southampton.[LNB] When contacted by the Echo late yesterday afternoon, Cherries chairman Eddie Mitchell declined to comment on whether the Eagles had made an official approach for Howe.[LNB] Howe has also kept his cards close to his chest, but the Echo understands the south London outfit were granted permission to speak to the Cherries chief earlier this week.[LNB] For further news and full match coverage, including our live blog, log on to the Daily Echo website later today.[LNB]
