Cherries: Howe expects Pitman interest

BOSS Eddie Howe says he is anticipating interest in newly-crowned supporters' player of the year Brett Pitman and acknowledges the striker is an ambitious character.[LNB] Channel Islander Pitman is likely to be linked with several League One and Championship clubs once the transfer merry-go-round gets underway after the end of the season.[LNB] The 22-year-old has put himself in the shop window this season by plundering 28 goals to spearhead Cherries' promotion from League Two. Pitman's exploits have already alerted both Reading and Peterborough, while Southampton, Charlton and Millwall are also understood to be keeping tabs on him.[LNB] When asked about Pitman's future, Howe, who secured a big-money move from Dean Court to Portsmouth in 2001, gave a typically pragmatic response.[LNB] I hope all the players are ambitious because I want them to be, he said. You can't have a player who works at his game every day and wants to improve and get better and then sees his future in League One every season.[LNB] You want players to strive to be better than the level they are playing at, otherwise they will not improve.[LNB] Howe added: I know Brett wants to progress and move on but only time will tell if that happens for him. He has done really well this season and I am sure he will be linked with clubs. I would be surprised if he wasn't. We will just have to wait and see what happens with regards to anybody coming in.[LNB] It is only natural that the bigger clubs are going to come looking because of the level we are at. Our job is to try to nurture and develop talented players.[LNB]
