Cherries: Home help for Howe

13 August 2010 07:00
BOSS Eddie Howe is hoping Cherries can again establish home rule as they look to hold their own in League One.[LNB] Howe's charges tomorrow host Peterborough United as Dean Court stages its first third-flight showdown for two years (3pm).[LNB] Cherries' impressive form in front of their own fans was a feature of last season's promotion with the Dorset club boasting one of the best home records in the country.[LNB] Howe said: It is great to be back at home. We've had two tough away games so it is great to be back in front of our own supporters.[LNB] Our home form last season underpinned our success and we would love that to continue this season. For that to happen, you need the supporters and everybody to get behind the team.[LNB] Cherries, beaten in their opening two games by Charlton and Southampton, face another stiff test when they host relegated Peterborough. Posh followed up their 3-0 win against Bristol Rovers on the opening day with a 4-1 victory over Rotherham in the Carling Cup.[LNB] Howe said: They are one of the favourites for promotion and have a strong squad. But I think we've performed well, without getting any reward or goals. If we keep performing and stick to our beliefs and principles, I think we will be okay.[LNB] Peterborough have got strikers and good wide players. They have genuinely got a good squad and are an energetic side. But it is about us, what we do and how we play. Although we are aware of their strengths and weaknesses, it's really about how we perform.[LNB] Peterborough are managed by ex-Bristol City and Yeovil boss Gary Johnson who took the reins after they had been relegated at the start of April.[LNB] Johnson said: We are going there to win. I would be disappointed if we were to only draw. That's not me going over the top, that's me making sure everyone is very positive.[LNB] We've proved we can win well and score plenty of goals at home. We now need to show we have the mental toughness to do the same away from home.[LNB] Bournemouth are a decent footballing team and there should be a good atmosphere as it is their first home game since promotion. It is up to us to keep the crowd quiet by keeping the ball and getting in front.[LNB] Cherries have no fresh injury concerns following their midweek defeat at St Mary's and Joe Partington is back in contention after returning from international duty with Wales under-21s. He started their 1-1 draw with Malta on Tuesday.[LNB] Posh striker Aaron Mclean, who has scored in their first two games, is a major doubt after being stretchered off during their Carling Cup win over Rotherham, while skipper Grant McCann returns following international duty with Northern Ireland.[LNB]
