Cherries: Hollands marks full appearance with stunning strike
DANNY Hollands took another significant step on the comeback trail by playing a starring role in Cherries' convincing victory over Combination rivals Exeter City yesterday.[LNB] The midfielder, who had double hernia surgery just three weeks ago, came through a gruelling 90-minute run-out against the Grecians at Dean Court.[LNB] Hollands capped a fine all-round display with a stunning goal and will be hoping to be in contention for a recall when Eddie Howe's men travel to Tranmere on Saturday.[LNB] Despite playing a part in Cherries' first two games of the season at Charlton and Southampton, Hollands was rested for the 5-1 rout of Peterborough four days ago.[LNB] He told the Daily Echo: The squad is strong this season and there are a lot of lads in the reserves fighting for their places. It was a good result and I think the manager was pleased with how we played. It was a good all-round team performance and we scored four good goals.[LNB] I had a disappointing pre-season because of the operation so it was good to get 90 minutes under my belt. It was good to be on the winning team and the goal was the icing on the cake.[LNB] I may have rushed back a little too soon and there was a bit of fluid around the groin after the Southampton game. I left it to settle for a couple of days and sat out against Peterborough as a precaution.[LNB] But I trained yesterday and got a full game in today. I will train hard for the rest of the week and try to get back in the squad for Tranmere.[LNB] Hollands's sweetly-struck 30-yarder doubled Cherries' lead after Jayden Stockley had turned in Joe Partington's cross to put them in front after just eight minutes.[LNB] Trialist Christian Moulong, a 20-year-old Frenchman, finished well to make it 3-0 following good work by Josh McQuoid on the stroke of half-time.[LNB] And a sublime strike from substitute Danny Ings, with McQuoid again providing the assist, completed the scoring 17 minutes from time.[LNB]
