Cherries: Hammer time for star Molesley

WEST Ham fanatic Mark Molesley could be in for a hot reception when he enters the Lions Den tonight despite his astute change of heart. Molesley, a lifelong Hammers supporter, will be hoping to help Cherries pull off a giant-killing when he steps out against Millwall in the first round of the Carling Cup (7.45pm). But despite initially threatening to don his West Ham shirt against their arch London rivals, Molesley has had second thoughts. The 28-year-old told the Daily Echo: When the draw was made, I joked with some of the lads that I was going to wear my West Ham shirt under my Bournemouth one but I dont think it would be a very good idea. There is a fierce rivalry between the two clubs and there is no love lost, thats for sure. Ive never played at the Den but I did watch West Ham there a few years ago. It is certainly an intimidating venue and Im looking forward to going there. Its going to be another big challenge so lets see how we get on. It would be nice to put one over them. I used to watch West Ham when I could but it wasnt week in, week out because of my own football commitments. In my opinion, Harry Redknapp is the best manager West Ham have ever had and I was fortunate enough to meet him when we played Tottenham last month. Cherries will be hoping the omens are on their side when they head to the capital for a League Cup tie for the first time since beating Leyton Orient at the same stage in 2004. Blackburn when Cherries enjoyed one of the most memorable nights in the clubs history with an epic 7-6 triumph on penalties. It was also the last time Cherries reached the third round losing 5-4 in a shootout against Cardiff having exited at the first hurdle for the past three seasons. Beaten by the Lions at the Den in the FA Cup in December 2007 and the LDV Vans Trophy in October 2006, Cherries also lost out when they last met the Londoners in the League Cup in 1990. Molesley, who scored Cherries third in the 3-0 win at Bury on Saturday, added: Its a great draw for us and we are all looking forward to it. You always look out for the cup draws to see who you are going to get and Millwall is a good fixture for us. It will give us a chance to pit our wits against so-called bigger opposition. We always seem to do well against the better teams so it might suit us.
