Cherries: Guyett calls for positive response

SCOTT Guyett urged his Cherries team-mates to regroup quickly after highlighting bad luck as a key factor in their first defeat of the League Two season. Guyett replaced Ryan Garry in central defence as Cherries fell to a 2-0 defeat at Northampton Town yesterday. The result halted a perfect start to the campaign for Eddie Howes men, who had opened up with three consecutive victories. And experienced centre-half Guyett believes now is the time for the Dean Court outfit to demonstrate their character. He told the Echo: Although our start has been very good, its still disappointing to come here and get beaten. Youre not going to go through the whole season without getting beaten, it was going to come sooner or later. Its about how you bounce back now. Weve got a couple of big games coming up and theres no midweek games so we can work a bit in training. These are little hurdles youre going to come across throughout the season and its how you come back from that. Guyett felt that luck was not on Cherries side at Sixfields, with two strong penalty appeals turned down in each half. The first for a shirt pull on Brett Pitman and the second shout for what appeared to be a clear handball by Chris McCready. I thought we were unlucky with a few incidents, admitted Guyett. I know you cant make excuses but Brett got pulled down in the first half and I thought, from where I was stood, that looked like a definite penalty. We hit the crossbar, there was a corner where I thought I got pulled back and there were another couple of chances that got saved off the line. We created a couple of chances but its still disappointing. Cherries now have a week to prepare for the visit of Crewe to Dean Court and Guyett is hoping his team can quickly get back on the winning track. At times we got the ball down and knocked it around a bit, but its always going to be tough coming to grounds like this, he added. Northampton are a side who came down from League One last season so we had to expect a battle. We matched them in parts of the game but not in all parts, so weve got to pick ourselves up now.
