Cherries: Fearless Feeney ready for next level

LIAM Feeney is confident he can continue his rapid footballing rise in League One and insists: I'm ready for the next step.[LNB] The livewire winger was one of Cherries' top attacking performers last season as they sealed promotion into the third tier.[LNB] And he is bullish about his and the club's prospects for the forthcoming campaign. Feeney has progressed quickly since arriving at Dean Court, having previously plied his trade in non-league with Salisbury City.[LNB] He adapted to life in the Football League to claim a place in Eddie Howe's side and went on to start 44 of Cherries' 46 basement division games during the promotion season.[LNB] And with the captures of Marc Pugh and Harry Arter adding competition for places in wide positions, Feeney is focused on keeping his first-team place and then flourishing.[LNB] He told the Echo: I think there are two, maybe sometimes three, players for every position now and it's good for the squad because you have to be on your toes all the time. It's good competition and healthy competition.[LNB] We've got some good wide players here, especially Pughy, Josh McQuoid, Harry Arter can play out there, and a few of the boys can play out wide.[LNB] They're all good players. But I know if I work hard that, hopefully, I could be in the team. First and foremost my goal is to be in the team, then to try to help the team win games.[LNB] Despite being in the Conference as little as 18 months ago, Feeney believes he can prove himself in the company of clubs such as Southampton, Charlton Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday.[LNB] The flying winger, who is set to feature as Cherries continue their pre-season preparations against Fulham at Dean Court this afternoon (3pm), added: I don't think you can be fearful going up, otherwise it's going to be a negative thing for you because you will go to teams fearing and not getting the result you want.[LNB] You've got to be fully confident and I'm fully confident that I can handle the level and I know that the team can, so I'm very confident.[LNB]
