Cherries: Ed's boys call the Shots

BOSS Eddie Howe watched Cherries maintain their 100 per cent winning start to the season and then doffed his cap to his players for their sheer hard work. Jason Pearce grabbed the only goal of the game as Cherries completed a hat-trick of League Two wins with a 1-0 victory over Aldershot at Dean Court last night. Pearce headed home Brett Pitmans free kick to ensure Howes class of 2009 would match Cherries best start to a season since 1998. It was a mixed performance, said Howe. The game didnt really get going in the first half and I didnt think either side played particularly well. We came out of the traps really quickly at the start of the second half and got the all-important goal. We were clinging on a little bit at the end. But the attitude and resolve of the boys was fantastic and I thought we defended resolutely. I am just so pleased for them because theyve got what they deserved. Three wins out of three has come from sheer hard work and a great attitude so I take off my hat to all of them. Howe admitted Aldershots formation had given him concerns ahead of the clash, with the visitors adopting a different system to Bury and Rotherham, Cherries first two opponents. He added: I thought they would cause us a problem in the middle of the pitch with the way they set up. Whether you want to call it 4-5-1 or 4-1-4-1, it did cause us a problem. They are technically good and look to play through midfield. But I thought we dealt with it and they didnt really cause us too many problems until the last 10 minutes when a couple of dangerous balls went into the box. But again, it was another clean sheet so I was delighted with that as well. Howe confirmed that Ryan Garry, helped off following a clash of heads with Marvin Morgan, was a bit groggy but okay.
