Cherries: Duo pledge to keep on scoring

Cherries new boys Michael Symes and Marc Pugh are confident they could maintain their respective hot streaks should they get the nod from boss Eddie Howe.[LNB] The pair both finished last season as leading goalscorers at their previous clubs and will be hoping to feature when Cherries kick off their League One campaign at Charlton.[LNB] Striker Symes, who joined Cherries on a free transfer from Accrington, spearheaded Stanley's valiant League Two play-off bid by netting 19 times for the Lancastrians.[LNB] And attacking midfielder Pugh, whose fee following his move from Hereford is likely to be determined by a tribunal, notched 13 goals for the Bulls including three against Cherries.[LNB] Both Symes and Pugh registered career-best seasonal goal tallies during 2009-10 and their respective arrivals at Dean Court will give Howe added options in the firepower department.[LNB] Cherries' top scorer Brett Pitman hit 26 of their 61 league goals last season, while no other player reached double figures. Danny Hollands, with six, was their second highest league marksman.[LNB] In an interview with the Daily Echo, Symes said: As a centre-forward, you are always expected to score goals so it's not an added pressure.[LNB] It doesn't matter where you go, people will expect you to score goals and, as long as you produce the goods, the supporters will get behind you.[LNB] The 26-year-old, who will be vying for a place with Pitman, Steve Lovell and Steve Fletcher, added: The competition is brilliant. You don't want to be at a club where there are only two strikers because you can have four or five bad games and still be in the team.[LNB] You need the competition to keep you on your toes.[LNB] Pugh, who played alongside Symes during their time together at Shrewsbury, told the Daily Echo: I enjoy the pressure. I went to Hereford last season and a lot was expected of me. It was my best goalscoring season so far and I'm just looking to improve on that.[LNB] I set my own individual targets before the season starts and, hopefully, I can push on and get a lot more goals. I'm loving every minute of my time here.[LNB] I played here for Hereford last season and the fans seemed great. I'm looking forward to playing in front of them and the club ticked all the boxes for me. I know I will have to earn my place and am not expecting to go straight into the team.[LNB] I played in League One when I was on loan to Hereford and there wasn't a lot of difference to League Two at the time. There are some big clubs in League One now and I'm sure we can do really well if we set our minds to it.[LNB]
