Cherries: Dalzell staying on

STRENGTH and conditioning coach John Dalzell has joined the Cherries backroom staff on a permanent basis.[LNB] Dalzell, who spent six weeks with the Cherries squad in an unpaid capacity during pre-season, has accepted a full-time post with the Dorset club.[LNB] Cherries boss Eddie Howe initially invited Dalzell to put his players through their paces after working alongside him during his time at Portsmouth.[LNB] Howe told the Daily Echo: I always wanted John to stay on and the chairman has been good enough to help us out by enabling us to keep him.[LNB] We had an excellent pre-season and John conditioned the players and really helped to keep them in shape. He was a huge benefit to us but, at that time, we were unable to offer him a permanent position due to finances.[LNB] Howe added: We regularly put on double sessions (training morning and afternoon) and the lads work really hard with John. I think we are seeing all the effort and hard work is paying off.[LNB] John knows exactly what he is doing and is probably one of the best in his field. We can coach players as much as we like but, if they are not in shape physically, you are never going to get the best out of them.[LNB]
