Cherries: Club's critics spurring on team

WARREN Cummings says Eddie Howe's troops have been spurred on by the recent bout of Cherries bashing from rival managers.[LNB] Cummings turned in another impressive display as Cherries reclaimed pole position in League Two with a 2-1 win at Macclesfield on Saturday.[LNB] Victory came after criticism of Cherries' financial position, attributed to Macclesfield boss Keith Alexander, had appeared in a newspaper article.[LNB] And while Alexander refuted making the comments, the story surfaced just weeks after Rochdale's Keith Hill and Accrington's John Coleman had publicly aired their views on the Dorset club's financial affairs.[LNB] On the playing side, Cummings has suffered more than most from Cherries' previous financial problems, the defender having been forced to take a sizeable pay cut to sign a new contract in the summer.[LNB] The Scotsman told the Daily Echo: It is disappointing that managers feel as though they have to comment on our financial position but long may it continue because we use it as a spur.[LNB] The longer people keep having a pop at us for whatever reason, the more we can use it to our advantage. It makes Eddie's team-talks quite easy.[LNB] It does surprise me that, in the lead up to a game, any manager would talk about things that are out of their control at another club. It has happened on a few occasions and I don't understand why.[LNB] There are financial constraints and have been ever since I've been here. But they have got nothing to do with the players. We can only do what we can do. What's gone on previously is down to other regimes.[LNB] As a team, we ended up getting relegated to this league and that was nothing to do with what happened on the pitch. We took our punishment and if people want to come out and have a pop at us, it's down to them. We don't mind.[LNB] We've got a good spirit and will just carry on. I would be lying if I said it hadn't been mentioned at some point what other managers think of our club and how it is being run.[LNB] One thing is for sure though. Players and management at this club would never comment negatively about any other football club and I think that's the right way to be. If people want to do it about us, we can only use it to our advantage.[LNB] Cummings played a key role as Cherries came from behind to chalk up their fifth away league win of a fruitful season on the road so far.[LNB] He provided the assist for Brett Pitman to head home a 78th-minute winner after the Cherries striker had earlier seen his penalty saved by Macclesfield goalkeeper Jonny Brain.[LNB] And after a Ryan Garry own goal credited by the Press Association to Macclesfield defender Shaun Brisley had given the hosts the lead, Pitman's stunning leveller saw the visitors reach the break on level terms.[LNB]
