Cherries: Bradbury says club a victim of its own success after Robinson exit

Cherries manager Lee Bradbury saw another key performer fly the nest and then admitted: We have become victims of our own success.[LNB] Bradbury's resources were further weakened yesterday when influential midfielder Anton Robinson completed his move to Cherries' League One rivals Huddersfield Town.[LNB] The 25-year-old joined the Terriers for an undisclosed fee believed to have been in the region of £250,000 and penned a three-year deal at the Galpharm Stadium.[LNB] He had been an integral member of the Cherries squad since moving to Dean Court for a nominal fee from Weymouth in January 2009, his former club set to receive around £5,000 from the move.[LNB] Huddersfield boss Lee Clark swooped for Robinson after the Londoner had impressed for Cherries in four meetings with the west Yorkshire outfit last season.[LNB] Robinson starred in both legs as Cherries suffered an agonising penalty shootout exit at the hands of the Terriers in the League One play-off semi-final in May.[LNB] He becomes the sixth member of that squad to leave joining Jason Pearce, Rhoys Wiggins, Danny Hollands and loan pair Adam Smith and Donal McDermott.[LNB] Boss Bradbury told the Daily Echo: I understand this is the way football is, but, sometimes, you are the victims of your own success.[LNB] We didn't get promoted. If we had, maybe the players would have been happy and fine. But we didn't and some of those lads showcased themselves week in, week out and did superbly.[LNB] Of course other clubs are going to be interested. It is a shame to lose these players because you get a bond with them. You start to get to know them very well, both as a player and a person, and then they move on.[LNB] But that is football and you can't keep the same squad forever. It is how you react to these losses and you will be judged on the people you bring in.[LNB] Bradbury, meanwhile, was quick to dismiss the notion of some supporters that the players had been mercenaries for moving simply for the money.[LNB] He added: If the people saying that were to put themselves in the shoes of the players, I am sure they would probably all do the same.[LNB] All the time those players were at the club, they gave their all. They all gave 100 per cent for AFC Bournemouth and you can't ask any more than that.[LNB] If a Championship club or one of the big payers in League One comes in then the lads are going to be attracted. It is only natural.[LNB] Commenting on Robinson's signing on the Huddersfield club website, boss Clark said: Anton is a top quality performer with proven pedigree at League One level.[LNB] I think his ability was plain for all to see in our four clashes with Bournemouth last season and his acquisition is a real coup for the club.[LNB] Robinson, whose contract with Cherries had been due to expire next summer, would have been entitled to walk away for nothing in 12 months.[LNB]
