Cherries: Bradbury ready to let Gregory off the leash
BOSS Lee Bradbury hailed Steven Gregory's Cherries credentials and vowed to let him loose in League One.[LNB] Cherries yesterday completed the signing of the AFC Wimbledon midfielder for an undisclosed fee, understood to be in the region of £55,000.[LNB] Bradbury had been aiming to seal Gregory's signature for some time and finally landed his man after the two clubs came to an agreement late on Wednesday night, as exclusively revealed on the Daily Echo website.[LNB] The former non-league star wasted little time in travelling to Dorset, where he passed a medical and penned a two-year deal with the League One outfit.[LNB] Bradbury is hoping to get the best out of the former Wycombe Wanderers trainee by giving him the freedom to express himself.[LNB] The Cherries manager told the Daily Echo: I am excited to have him joining the squad and to see him playing in the Bournemouth colours.[LNB] I think he is a Bournemouth player in the way he plays his football. He is tidy on the ball and athletic.[LNB] He has been a little bit restricted in the way he has had to play in the past couple of seasons at AFC Wimbledon, in a sitting role in midfield.[LNB] But he is more than happy to get forward and wants to get forward and score goals. He has certainly got the athleticism to do that and we will take him off the leash here.[LNB] But he will be joining a lot of other good central midfielders. It is good competition for places, like I said about Shwan Jalal and Darryl Flahavan. Competition for places is going to be hot and the lads have got to be on top of their game.[LNB] Gregory will be battling it out with the likes of Anton Robinson, Harry Arter and Mark Molesley for a starting spot.[LNB] Joe Partington (hip) is out injured at the moment and is going to be out for a couple more months yet, so that rules him out, said Bradbury.[LNB] Then we have got four players for two positions, which is what we want. We want strength in depth. You only need one injury and then you are struggling again.[LNB] They are all quality players, all players that I really like and all of them have great attitudes. I look forward to seeing them do battle in pre-season.[LNB] Bradbury added: Steven played a big part in the promotion at AFC Wimbledon last season.[LNB] They were really disappointed to lose him.[LNB] But it is the same as we have experienced when teams from above come in for your players, it is always hard to keep the lads.[LNB] They have had to let him go and we will benefit from it. I think if we do a bit of work with him, he will turn into a great player.[LNB]
