Cherries: Bradbury delighted with Gritt appointment

Cherries boss Lee Bradbury has welcomed the appointment of Bournemouth-born Steve Gritt as the club's new chief scout.[LNB] Gritt, who started his playing career as an apprentice at Dean Court, has been brought in to replace Des Taylor, who controversially resigned the post earlier this month.[LNB] The 53-year-old is Charlton's fifth highest appearance-maker and also oversaw more than 200 games as joint first-team manager alongside Alan Curbishley at the Valley between 1991 and 1995.[LNB] Midfielder Gritt played 435 times for the Addicks after making just eight league and cup appearances for Cherries in 1976-77, when he also scored three goals.[LNB] He also bossed Brighton and filled several managerial posts at Millwall before returning to Charlton as academy manager in 2004, a post he left last year due to cost-cuttings measures. Until his appointment with Cherries, Gritt had been scouting for Southampton.[LNB] Bradbury told the Daily Echo: Steve is 100 per cent serious about his work and has got a great background in the game, having managed and coached.[LNB] He has got a lot of good contacts and has been in the game for a long time. We have brought him on board and know he will be another good addition.[LNB] The role of chief scout is very important for me. He will compile player reports and team assessments that we will use to prepare for matches.[LNB] I can watch some games but can't watch them all. It is a big workload but I know he is willing to put in the hours and I trust him.[LNB] Co-incidentally, one of Gritt's first missions has been to file a team assessment on Charlton ahead of Cherries' League One curtain-raiser at the Valley.[LNB]
