Cherries: Boo boys inspired us claims Fletcher

STEVE Fletcher played a starring role as Cherries bounced back and then told the Dean Court doubters: You inspired us.[LNB] Some had questioned whether Eddie Howe's men could sustain their League Two promotion push following three consecutive defeats with the boo boys surfacing after the loss against Bury.[LNB] But led from the front by Fletcher, Cherries went some way to silencing their critics with a battling 2-1 victory at Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.[LNB] The club captain produced a vintage display as he opened the scoring and then contributed heavily in the build-up to Anton Robinson's second-half strike.[LNB] Luke Murphy pulled a goal back for the hosts with a powerful drive, but Cherries earned a deserved win at Gresty Road.[LNB] Speaking after his match-winning contribution, Fletcher described the positive result as imperative as Cherries stayed in second spot ahead of tomorrow's clash at high-flying Rotherham.[LNB] And when asked whether the doubters had provided inspiration, the 37-year-old admitted: The more people put you down and are negative, the more you want to turn around and say we are good enough' and we just want to prove to them we are.[LNB] We want to prove it to ourselves first and foremost, but also to prove to the doubters we're still in there with a chance and we're still fighting.[LNB] The boys are quite buoyant after what has probably been a solemn couple of weeks after losing three games in a row, two of which were at home. It's not nice.[LNB] You read things in the local paper and there are a few comments going around the place. You try not to read them, but you end up either being told or you read them anyway.[LNB] But I think the boys reacted in the right way on Saturday with a positive result away from home.[LNB] Any team which has lost three in a row would take any type of win and I thought we did it in style.[LNB] Fletcher added: It was nice because we've had a few doubters over the past few weeks, which you're going to have when you lose three in a row and you're flying high at the top of the league. You're there to be shot down and we've become victims of our own success.[LNB] A few people have been doubting us and that might still happen. But it was nice for us to turn around and say we're still in there and we're still fighting'.[LNB] Cherries boss Howe revealed that Fletcher might need to be rested at Rotherham, while Marvin Bartley is an injury doubt after suffering a knock to his calf at Crewe.[LNB] Should the midfielder not recover in time, Howe could request permission from the Football League to sign an emergency loan player.[LNB]
