Cherries: Blissett's advice for Pitman

POPULAR Dean Court old boy Luther Blissett has warned Cherries' hot prospect Brett Pitman about the perils of moving for the wrong reasons.[LNB] The legendary striker was among the crowd to see Pitman pave the way for Cherries' resounding 4-0 victory over Port Vale seven days ago.[LNB] Fittingly, Pitman's opener against the Valiants his 28th goal of the season saw him join Blissett as the club's 10th all-time leading league goalscorer.[LNB] Now 52, Blissett netted 56 times in 121 league games for Cherries between 1988 and 1991 and won the club's golden boot in three successive seasons.[LNB] A fruitful career, which saw him win 14 caps for England, included a £1m transfer to Italian giants AC Milan and Blissett says Pitman should think carefully if the opportunity to move arises.[LNB] In an exclusive interview with the Daily Echo, Blissett said: I never regretted any move in my career because I evaluated them on their merits and made a decision from there.[LNB] It was a good time for me to go. Watford had just finished second in the first division and you can't turn down a move to AC Milan. It improved me as a player.[LNB] People asked me why I went to Bournemouth when I did. I thought I could make a contribution and be a part of something. That was the most important thing and finances never determined me going anywhere.[LNB] Brett has got a good chance and it will be interesting to see him in the league above next season. He knows where the back of the net is and is a good finisher.[LNB] We can all say he can do this and that but you would need to see him in stronger company week in, week out to see how he adapts. If he continues progressing, he will be a great asset to the club. The problem then would be trying to keep him because the big boys would come looking.[LNB] If a big club were to come calling, it would have to be a club where he believed he could actually do something and make a real contribution. You don't want to be a bit-part player, you want to know that you will get a fair crack of the whip.[LNB] Those are the decisions you have to make because the financial ones take care of themselves if the big clubs come looking. As a player, you have to make sure the club is right for you and one that will give you the best chance to progress and become the player you want to be.[LNB] Discussing Cherries' prospects in League One, Blissett said: They are going to need to strengthen but the management team has shown they know what they are about and will get the right players. If injuries are kind to them they could finish mid-table or above.[LNB]
