Cherries: Anxious wait for Marv

MARVIN Bartley faces an anxious wait to discover the full extent of a calf injury after sustaining a recurrence of the problem during Cherries' 0-0 draw with Cheltenham on Saturday.[LNB] Bartley, who was forced off after taking a heavy blow to his left leg during Cherries' 2-1 win at Crewe, suffered a similar fate just 28 minutes after coming off the bench against the Robins.[LNB] The midfielder, who missed the midweek win at Rotherham, told the Daily Echo: I trained on Friday and felt fine. It was just sod's law and I was unlucky to take another whack on it.[LNB] I went in for a tackle and tried to protect my left leg by going in with my right. I don't know whether their player fell on me or I bent it but it is very sore and worse now than when I first did it.[LNB] Asked whether Cherries' transfer embargo had influenced his decision to declare himself fit, Bartley replied: Definitely, but you've also got to be honest to the gaffer and to the boys.[LNB] You don't want to go out 60 per cent fit. I felt fine when I trained and thought I would be okay, even if I took another knock.[LNB] With a small squad, you do feel you have to make yourself available but the gaffer always asks us to be honest. If we had more players then perhaps I would have been rested for a little longer.[LNB] But I felt 100 per cent on the bench. It wasn't tender to touch so I would have declared myself fit whether we had 14 or 25 players available.[LNB] Although Bartley is a major doubt for Cherries' home clash with Notts County tomorrow, boss Eddie Howe will be unable to make another request to the Football League to relax the club's embargo as Warren Cummings's return from suspension will supplement his squad to the requisite 14 professionals.[LNB]
