Burnley managed to edge out Leeds United at Elland Road as the Lancashire side managed to hold on to a 2-1 win after Arfield and Vokes secured a 2-goal lead going in at the break with strikes in the 18th and 42nd minutes. Smith pulled one back in the 79th minute, but it was too little too late for the home side. Leeds United 13th, Burnley 2nd.
Blackpool and Leicester City faced up to each other at Bloomfield Road as the play-off eventually had to settle for a 2-2 draw in their encounter. Basham has given the home side the lead in the 19th minute. Leicester turned the game around with two quick strikes through Konchesky levelling from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute and King 2 minutes later. An Ince penalty in the 91st minute settled the game with honours shared. Blackpool 4th, Leicester City 3rd.
Watford ran riot over Barnsley at Oakwell. Deeney got the Hornets off the mark with a 7th minute opener, with Scotland levelling for the home side 7 minute later - but that was as good as it got for the home side. After that it was one way traffic as Faraoni (18th min), Foresteri (43rd min), Murray (69th min) and Anya (79th min) completed the rout. Barnsley 23rd, Watford 5th.
Doncaster Rovers managed to stunt the early season progress being made by Nottingham Forest at the Keepmoat after a 2-2 draw. Macheda gave Donny a 34th minute lead only to see Cohen level 4 minutes later. Macheda bagged his, and Donny's second in the 52nd minute, but had to settle for a point when Reid bagged an equaliser for the visitors. Doncaster Rovers 19th, Nottingham Forest 6th.
Reading look as if they're heading in the right direction following a 3-1 draw at Pride Park against Derby County. A brace from Pogrebnyak (47th and 62nd min) got the Royals off the mark. Hughes pulled one back for the Rams in the 80th minute only for the result to be sealed by Blackman in the 95th minute. Derby County 12th, Reading 7th.
An eventful match at The Riverside as Middlesbrough and AFC Bournemouth played out a 6-goal thriller. First blood went to the Cherries as Pitman bagged a brace of penalties in the 4th and 12th minutes, only to see Kamara (20th min) and Carayol (32nd min) bring the scores level going in at the break. The home side claimed the lead when Leadbitter bagged the home sides third of the afternoon in the 75th minute. With the home fans dreaming of a first home win of the season, Woodgate put past his own keeper to level scores in the 83rd minute. Williams for Boro saw red in the 86th minute for a professional foul. Nine minutes of time added at the end didn't result in a winner. Middlesbrough 16th, AFC Bournemouth 8th.
Brighton & Hove Albion piled the pressure on Bolton Wanderers at The Amex as the home side managed to run out 3-1 winners, but had to come from behind to do so after Lopez put past his own keeper to give the side rooted to the foot of the table the lead in the 29th minute. Three goals in a 4-minute spell saw the game turned on its; head as Spearing (og 53rd min), Calderon (55th min) and Buckley (57th min) sealed the win. Brighton & Hove Albion 10th, Bolton Wanderers 24th.
Wigan Athletic managed to claim victory in their Sunday match at the DW Stadium against Ipswich Town as goals from Shotton (12th min) and Powell (90th min) proved to be enough. Wigan Athletic 11th, Ipswich Town 14th.
Local bragging rights in SE London go to Millwall heading in to the new working week as they managed to claim a second win in a week as they managed to edge victory over near neighbours Charlton Athletic at The Valley. McDonald bagged the only goal of the game in the 38th minute. Charlton Athletic 20th, Millwall 17th.
Birmingham City managed to chalk up a remarkable 4-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at St Andrews as Lingard bagged all 4 goals, on his debut, with strikes in the 20th, 29th, 33rd and 51st minutes. Birmingham City 18th, Sheffield Wednesday 21st.
The only other game played over the weekend saw Blackburn Rovers (15th) play out a 0-0 draw with Huddersfield Town (9th) at Ewood Park.
