Leicester City closed the gap at the top to just a point as they managed to overcome Watford at Vicarage Road with a convincing 3-0 win. Goals from Wood (10th min), Knockhaert (53rd min) and Dyer (86th min) sealed the win for the Foxes. Watford 7th, Leicester City 2nd.
Also closing the gap on the top were Queens Park Rangers who managed to edge it against Derby County at Loftus Road. Jenas got the home side off the mark in the 11th minute, with Dawkins levelling 12 minutes later. The winner came through a Hill strike in the 63rd minute. Queens Park Rangers 3rd, Derby County 11th.
On a good day for the chasing pack, Blackpool also closed the gap as they edged Nottingham Forest out with a single goal win at the City Ground.Dobbie bagged the all important winner in the 93rd minute. The result was the first time that Forest had failed to score in a League match this season. Nottingham Forest 6th, Blackpool 4th.
The result of the day came at Hillsborough as Sheffield Wednesday, at the 13th time of asking, managed to bag their first League win of the season against high flying Reading. Fryatt (18th min) and Antonio (25th min) gave the Owls a great start, with Pogrebnyak (35th min) reducing the arrears before a Morrison own goal restored the 2-goal advantage just before the break. Wickham (57th min) and Fryatt with his second (62nd min) put the result beyond doubt leaving Le Fondre with the task of bagging a consolation in the 90th minute. Sheffield Wednesday 21st, Reading 5th.
Any thoughts of a mini-revival for Yeovil Town after their win last weekend were snuffed out by Leeds United at Elland Road as the Yorkshire side ran out 2-0 winners courtesy of a brace from McCormack in the 48th and 67th minutes. Leeds United 8th, Yeovil Town 24th.
Blackburn Rovers managed to edge out Middlesbrough at Ewood Park with a solitary Lowe goal in the 76th minute. Brough did win the yellow card count 5-1. Blackburn Rovers 9th, Middlesbrough 16th.
Despite the distraction of their European adventures, Wigan Athletic are slowly closing the gap on the play-off places. Their latest success came against Huddersfield Town at the DW Stadium. Barnett gave the Latics the lead in the 21st minute, with Norwood levelling just before the break. Powell bagged what proved to be the winner just after half time. Brighton & Hove Albion managed to edge Doncaster Rovers out at the Keepmoat with a 3-1 win on the road. Forster-Caskey gave the Seagulls the lead in the 8th minute, only to see Brown level in the 75th minute. Late goals from Lita (85th min) and Lopez (90th min) sealed the win for the visitors. Barnsley were held at Portman Road by Ipswich Town on Friday evening as O'Brien (70th min) bagged the equaliser after Murphy put the Tractorboys ahead just before half time. The home side were reduced to 10-men in the last few moments of the game as Cresswell saw red. Ipswich Town 13th, Barnsley 23rd.
Improving Bolton Wanderers managed to see off AFC Bournemouth at Dean Court to dent their record of having scored in every match this season. Goals from Ngog (37th min) and Beckford (93rd min) sealed victory for the Trotters. AFC Bournemouth 15th, Bolton Wanderers 19th.
Birmingham City slipped in to relegation trouble as Charlton Athletic managed to bag a single goal victory courtesy of a Stephens strike in the 57th minute. Birmingham City 22nd, Charlton Athletic 17th.
