Howe to shuffle Cherries pack

Eddie Howe will ring the changes when Bournemouth host Sky Bet League Two Northampton in the Capital One Cup.

Howe swapped all 11 players in the previous round as they saw off Exeter and the former Burnley boss says he will give the squad members "who haven't had the opportunity to put their hat into the ring" a chance to stake their claims for a first-team place.

Brett Pitman, the only survivor from the Cherries side that lost 2-0 to Northampton when the sides last met in 2010, is likely to be given the nod along with the likes of Ryan Fraser, Ian Harte and Dan Gosling.

Simon Francis is edging closer to a return after a hamstring injury but the Cobblers clash looks to have come too soon for the right-back, while fellow defender Elliott Ward has visited specialists in a bid to treat his knee injury.

Northampton will again be without Darren Carter.

The midfielder has still not recovered from the hamstring injury which has sidelined him since the 3-2 win over Wolves in the first round.

Alex Nicholls is on the brink of joining Exeter on loan as he continues his recovery from the broken leg he suffered almost two years ago.

Evan Horwood and Lewis Hornby (tendonitis) are both out while Kelvin Langmead (Achilles) is sidelined and Ian Morris will miss the rest of the season with a dislocated knee. But Danny Alfei is back after missing Northampton's 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury on Saturday through injury.
