Bournemouth 3-1 Brentford: Match Report

Rare Bartley gem boosts Cherries Marvin Bartley's first goal in more than two years helped Bournemouth to a hard-fought 3-1 win over Brentford which keeps the Cherries right in the promotion mix-up in fourth place. Eddie Howe's side had raced into an 11th-minute lead when Liam Feeney reacted quickest to nod home from Rhoys Wiggins' corner. Despite dominating possession, Bournemouth could not add to their advantage and were eventually pegged back in the 65th minute when Brentford's Lee Bradbury turned a Nicky Forster effort into his own net. The visitors were level for just four minutes thanks to Bartley's poacher's effort, turning Feeney's cross home from close range for his first league goal since September 2008. Brentford should have been level two minutes later, but the home side were indebted to goalkeeper Shwan Jalal, who saved Charlie MacDonald's penalty after Shaun Cooper had been penalised for handball. Brentford continued to search for an equaliser, but with just two minutes remaining the result was sealed when veteran striker Steve Fletcher scored in front of the stand named in his honour to keep the Cherries firmly in the play-off picture.
