Gosling sets up Bournemouth win

Dan Gosling scored for the second Capital One cup tie in a row as Bournemouth made their two-division superiority show with a 3-0 win at home to League Two Northampton.

Striker Brett Pitman also bagged his second goal in four days after netting in Saturday's 3-2 Championship defeat at Blackburn.

Former Coventry striker Callum Wilson then came off the bench to secure Eddie Howe's men's passage into round three.

Former Newcastle midfielder Gosling claimed his first goal for the Cherries in their first-round win at Exeter.

And he repeated the trick by firing Bournemouth in front on 21 minutes with a calm finish from inside the penalty area after Adam Smith had pulled the ball back from the byline.

Northampton had already been rescued by the woodwork before Gosling's opener when Eunan O'Kane's long-range shot rebounded off the crossbar.

It was no surprise when Pitman doubled the Championship side's lead on the half hour, rounding visiting goalkeeper Jordan Archer before slotting into an empty net.

Bournemouth continued to dominate in the second half and Archer saved smartly from record signing Tokelo Rantie.

Substitute Wilson secured the victory 11 minutes from time, heading home from close range after Archer could only parry Gosling's initial effort.
