£5m Cherries Windfall

With promotion comes the massive financial boost that a step up brings to a club like AFC Bournemouth.

It has been estimated that with the increased TV revenue, gate receipts (once the fourth stand is in place), sponsorship and various other endorsements, the Cherries could be in line to gain £5m in revenue next season alone for winning promotion from League One, as well as there being a boost to the area with increased visitors throughout the year.

Chairman Eddie Mitchell on the extra revenue coming in, is quoted as saying on the BBC Sport web site that: "By and large we will be better off but the money has got to be spent wisely".

On the current squad, Mitchell went on to say: "Personally, I believe we have a great combination of players in the side who can take themselves further and they rightly deserve the chance to do that. Promotion is worth a lot in terms of exposure and feel-good factor, and I think all those things combined will give us momentum to stay there and possibly go further. Our number one aim is to stay there. To sustain that we have to pay higher wages and there will be other expenses as well but our aim has to sustain our level of football at that league".
