AEK players say no to Christmas party

Santa Claus will not be visiting AEK Athens on Monday evening after the Greek club's players voted overwhelmingly to cancel their planned Christmas party.

At Monday's training session, the players decided not to attend the event in protest at the financially troubled club's failure to meet their financial obligations towards them.

Last week the team's management and shareholders distributed 200,000 euros ($260,000) to the players, but it was a drop in the ocean compared to the five million euros that the players are reportedly owed.

The current owners of the club have been trying to attract investment to AEK and have reportedly looked towards Turkey and the Arab nations for potential buyers.

On Sunday, Atromitos Athens halted AEK's five match winning-streak with a 1-0 victory, leaving AEK in third place in the Greek Super League.
