Welch pens Reds contract

Accrington Stanley defender Michael Welch has signed a fresh one-year contract with the League Two new boys.

The 24-year-old former Macclesfield Town stopper was a key figure in the Reds' run to the Conference title last season and is hoping to build on that form in the coming campaign.

He told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "Gary Roberts is staying now, which is a massive bonus for everybody and Ian Craney has signed a new deal.

"It's great to stay. We had a really good year last year with a good set of lads and we've kept pretty much everybody.

"Hopefully, we can build on last year and go into next season with a lot of confidence."
