Stanley to repay generous donors

Accrington Stanley chairman Rob Heys has vowed to give something back to the people who have donated money to the club in the wake of their financial crisis.

Stanley have been greeted by a flurry of donations from fellow Football League members, fans and local businesses as they struggle to foot a £308,000 tax bill that is threatening to force them to close.

A number of fund-raising events have been arranged by the club, including a friendly with Premier League neighbours Burnley, which took place on Tuesday.

And Heys insists he will repay the generosity of the donors while vowing to take the club forward.

"We can guarantee that this won't happen again," he said. "That's a personal guarantee. We know that once we get this out of the way we've got a very bright future ahead of us.

"It's very encouraging the amount of people that have got in touch with us and have been getting behind the club. I think it's a platform to build on, it's very humbling.

"Even local nurseries are having fund-raising days for us and next year we've spoken about designating a week or even a fortnight for hard-line fund-raising for local charities to give something back and say thank-you to everybody who's helped us."
