Accrington Stanley have agreed to release striker Romuald Boco from his contract.
The 22-year-old had recently returned to the club after being away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Benin.
Boco joined Stanley in 2005 and wrote himself into the club's folklore after scoring their first Football League goal in 44 years following their promotion from the Conference last season.
"Romu hasn't been happy for a while for a number of reasons and has ultimately decided that he wants to move on," chief executive Rob Heys told the club's official website.
"He is a great lad who I know will go on and do well in football and in life in general.
"He scored our first league goal last season and it was fantastic to watch him represent his country last month in the African Nations tournament."
