Mullin plans to fight for place

Accrington Stanley striker Paul Mullin has warned new signing Justin Jackson that he has a fight on his hands to force his way into the starting line up.

The former Doncaster Rovers and Rushden & Diamonds forward arrived at Stanley on Monday in a bid to kick-start his career, but Mullin and strike partner Lutel James have already hit 15 goals between them this season and he isn't ready to give up his place just yet.

"Football can be a horrible game. Me and Lutel have been here for a couple of seasons now and done well, but it doesn't matter what you've done in the past, you can soon be yesterday's news," he told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

"There's not a lot that me, Lutel or any other lads can do about the players who are coming in because (manager) John Coleman wants competition for places, and that can only be good for the team.

"At the moment, there's no reason to change anything. I'm scoring, Lutel's scoring and the team's playing really well, so whichever player comes in will have to bide their time.

"The squad is very big at the moment and there are four or five good players who aren't even getting on the bench, so it's important that if you've got a shirt you make sure you hang on to it."
