Mullin hoping for cup first

Accrington Stanley striker Paul Mullin is optimistic of making the first round proper of the FA Cup for the first time in his career.

Stanley take on Conference strugglers Leigh RMI in the fourth qualifying round on Saturday and Mullin is relishing the chance of beginning a cup run at an unusually late stage in the competition.

"I've never played in the first round and a lot of the lads are in the same boat, so it would be nice to have a bit of a cup run," he told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

"It's strange because no-one's really mentioned it up until this week because we've been concentrating on the league.

"We've certainly done better than anyone would have thought this season and have slowly come to the realisation we belong in this league.

"In past season's we would have been well and truly involved in the FA Cup by now, so it's nice to have it coming up."
