Mullin faces Reds departure

Accrington Stanley stalwart Paul Mullin has been placed on the transfer list after rejecting the offer of a new two-year contract.

The 35-year-old striker has been asked to take a pay cut to remain with the Reds and Mullin says that that is not acceptable.

He told the Accrington Observer: "I have spoken to the gaffer and they offered me a new two-year deal starting this season, but it was at a much reduced rate.

"I am more than happy to stay at Accrington - everyone knows how much the club means to me - but I just couldn't accept the new deal. It was a substantial cut.

"I still have a year left on my contract and the club do need me off the wage bill, so they suggested putting me on the transfer list and letting me go.

"I accept the situation as I understand it is the best for the club and will just have to see what happens now."
