Accrington Stanley will be without the services of their captain Peter Cavanagh for the next three months.
The 26-year-old has not played since mid-November after having a hernia operation, but has now been told he also needs surgery on an Achilles problem.
Meanwhile, Stanley boss John Coleman will also have to cope without Romuald Boco for much of January.
The 22-year-old goalkeeper is set to team up with the rest of the Benin squad as they prepare for the African Cup of Nations in Ghana.
