Ailing Stanley could go bust

Accrington Stanley are in danger of being wound up unless they are able to repay most of their tax bill before the end of October.

The Reds were given eight weeks at a High Court hearing to pay a substantial part of the £308,000 tax bill which has been hanging over the club since May.

Chief executive Rob Heys admitted: "We're under an awful lot of pressure to raise this money but we won't let the club go under.

"We've addressed our budgets and things are going to plan but we do have this tax bill and we need to satisfy the tax man and get him off our backs and we need a big fund-raising effort over the next two months.

"It's the club's fault there's a tax bill but external circumstances, such as our ground sponsors going bust, didn't help.

"Now we need everyone to pull together to save the club."
