Stanley upset Rovers

Accrington advanced into the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Section First Round with a 5-3 penalty shoot-out victory over Tranmere. Enoch Showunmi missed the vital penalty for the League One side after the tie had finished 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes, with Showunmi cancelling Ray Putterill's early strike. The better early opportunities fell to Rovers but Showunmi on two occasions and Ryan Fraughan both missed the target. At the other end Putterill saw a snap-shot well held by keeper Joe Collister before Putterill capitalised on a mix up involving home defender Max Blanchard and Collister to fire the League Two side ahead after 55 minutes. Stanley gave as good as they received but Tranmere levelled in the 80th minute when Showunmi made up for his earlier failures with an excellent angled strike past the advancing Cisak. Tranmere almost settled it in the 87th minute but Cisak brilliantly turned aside a Sam Morrow strike from 12 yards and Stanley sealed it in the shoot-out.
