Stanley facing fight for survival

A High Court judge made the ruling in London on Wednesday morning to leave the League Two side facing a desperate fight for survival. It emerged in May that Accrington owed the cash but it appeared the club and the Inland Revenue had come to an agreement for repayments over a year, thought to be monthly instalments of £18,000. However, due to the changeover in management behind the scenes at Accrington after former chairman Eric Whalley left to be replaced by local businessman David O'Neill at the beginning of August, and with the club's main sponsors stopping their sponsorship early, the payments could not be met. Stanley are now in the process of cutting costs and have a number of fundraising activities in the pipeline. Chief executive Rob Heys said: "We are looking to pay the full amount off. We acknowledge the debt in full and we know it has to be paid, and it will be paid, and we are not ignoring that fact. "The new regime has only been in control for a month and there is a real sense the club is going places and it is only fair David O'Neill (chairman), who has put money into the club, initiates those changes."
