Heys defends training plans

Accrington chief executive Rob Heys has revealed his surprise at claims from former loanee Billy Kee that he did not join the club because of concerns over facilities. But the comments from Kee, who has since left Leicester to join Torquay, have not stopped Stanley from deciding they will remain at their Preston training base, situated at the UCLAN Sports Arena, this season. "I was surprised Billy said that," Heys told the Lancashire Telegraph. "Billy has obviously come from Leicester where there are state-of-the-art training facilities. But I think we will look to stay at UCLAN two days a week and train at the ground on Fridays. "There are three or four clubs who use those facilities, and people use it for sports science fitness tests as well. "We go to the Soccerdome, too, and we have trained alongside clubs like Wigan and Burnley there. We have had bad weather over the past year, but most League Two clubs have been affected." Elsewhere, the club's opening pre-season friendly against Burscough on Saturday has been called off as the pitch at Victoria Park is not yet ready to start playing on.
