Coleman won't cross the line

Accrington manager John Coleman was not surprised to see winger Sean McConville denied what looked a clear goal in the goalless draw at Crewe. The visitors were stunned when McConville's 13th-minute turn and shot came down off the crossbar and looked to have crossed the line only for linesman Andrew Hutchinson's flag to stay put. Wycombe captain Gareth Ainsworth was given a goal at Shrewsbury on Saturday which replays clearly showed did not go over the line and Coleman applauded the officials for erring on the side of caution. Coleman said: "I couldn't see it from where I was but Sean McConville was adamant it was over the line. However, one thing my experience as a manager has taught me is to never believe anything a player tells you. "In light of what happened at Shrewsbury at the weekend it would take a brave linesman to give a goal this week. It's better not to give a goal rather than give a goal that doesn't exist. "We still created lots of other chances and it was a good, spirited performance that was just lacking the goal. If we can go and get maximum points against Aldershot on Saturday then we will have had a very good week, if we don't then we are looking at another sticky patch."
