Clarets date called off

Burnley's scheduled pre-season friendly at Accrington next Tuesday has been cancelled. The recent bad weather has slowed down the pitch improvements underway at the Crown Ground and the two clubs have agreed now to call off the game. Clarets boss Brian Laws hopes to schedule another warm-up game when his squad returns from their tour of Singapore early next week. Stanley chief executive Rob Heys said: "Over £70,000 has been spent on improving the pitch this season with the levelling of the surface and the installation of a new drainage and sprinkler system. "While we were very keen to get the game on in terms of bringing some money into the club, we have taken a longer term view. "After discussions with the pitch contractors we have decided the sensible way forward is to allow a further 10 days or so before it is played on to ensure we do not do anything to jeopardise the work that has gone into making what will be the best playing surface ever at the Crown Ground."
