Accrington v Southend TN

Will Hatfield may miss Accrington's clash with Southend, despite his determination to make Stanley's Capital One Cup trip to Leeds next Tuesday.

The midfielder was brought through the academy at Elland Road and Accrington manager James Beattie revealed Hatfield is desperate to play against his old club.

However, a slight knock may rule him out of both that game and the Shrimpers contest as Beattie fears a further setback if his problem were to worsen.

Beattie has no other concerns, yet striker Brett Ormerod, who is currently mulling over a move back to the Store First Stadium, is injured and receiving treatment from the club.

Southend had the best defence in League Two last season and Phil Brown has looked to build on that by strengthening his attacking options.

Having missed out in the play-offs after finishing fifth, the Shrimpers have brought in wingers Myles Weston and David Worrall, who played in League One for Gillingham and Rotherham respectively last term.

Cian Bolger is another solid recruit from Bolton, Lee Barnard and Shaquile Coulthirst come in from Southampton and Spurs and veteran Danish defender Mads Ibenfeldt adds strength in depth at the back.

Up front, new recruit Isaac Layne is rated a few weeks behind the rest of the squad, but Barry Corr will look to pick up where he left off last season after scoring five times in his last eight matches and defender Luke Prosser is back to full fitness after suffering injury problems in the final few months of the campaign, with Michael Timlin the only absentee after suffering a dislocated elbow.
