Matt Crooks earns Accrington a point against Newport

Highly-rated Matt Crooks scored an equaliser 13 minutes from time to rescue a point for in-form Accrington in a 2-2 draw with Newport.

Accrington wasted chances in the first half, the best falling to Piero Mingoia whose effort cannoned off the upright in the 35 minutes.

Sub Yan Klukowski, who had replaced the injured Janoi Donacien in the 21st minute, opened the scoring for Newport after the restart when he got the ball off Jazzi Barnum-Bobb's cross and headed into the top of the net on 54 minutes.

The lead only last four minutes as it was all square when Sean McConville's effort was cleared off the line and Billy Kee lashed home the rebound.

However County have proved resilient under new manager John Sheridan and, on 66 minutes, Klukowski played a long ball to fellow sub Scott Boden, who had been on the pitch five minutes, and he ran onto it and slammed the ball home.

Stanley did not lie down and Seamus Conneely's 25 yard blast hit the woodwork with Crooks reacting first to fire home the rebound on 77 minutes to share the spoils.
