Late Shay McCartan effort seals all three points for Accrington

Shay McCartan headed home an injury-time winner as Accrington left it late to secure a 2-1 victory over fellow promotion hopefuls Plymouth.

Substitute McCartan scored in the third minute of added time, heading in from Matty Pearson's cross as Stanley scored two goals in the last 10 minutes.

Argyle took the lead in the 23rd minute when Graham Carey's cross was headed in by Jake Jervis.

Plymouth goalkeeper Luke McCormick denied Billy Kee, Rommy Boco and Sean McConville, and McCartan should have equalised on 57 minutes when he got on the end of McConville's cross but, unmarked, he somehow guided his header wide.

Stanley continued to press and got their rewards when Billy Kee was pushed in the area by defender Kelvin Mellor in the 83rd minute and the Plymouth man saw red. Striker Kee dusted himself down and fired home the penalty.

The Reds went all out for the winner and McCartan's late show secured a valuable three points in their promotion chase.
