Accrington rue missed opportunities

On-loan Omar Daley opened his account for promotion-chasing Rotherham as they defeated Accrington Stanley 2-0 at the Don Valley Stadium. The Millers looked anything but promotion candidates in a first half that was dominated by their lowly visitors - and Stanley must have been kicking themselves at the break after squandering several good scoring chances. Ian Craney blasted wide from Terry Gornell's lay off in the first minute and then Gornell saw his close range effort from Charlie Barnett's cross blocked by goalkeeper Andy Warrington's legs. Little was seen of the home attack but newboy Liam Henderson headed over from Daley's cross after nine minutes, before Henderson embarked on a solo run but saw his shot blocked at the expense of a corner. The deadlock was finally broken by Rotherham after 58 minutes when Henderson broke into the area. Appeals for a penalty were waved away when he appeared to be tripped, but he somehow forced the ball across goal for Daley to fire home. Only Warrington's heroics kept Rotherham in front as Stanley threw everything at Rotherham, before the home side sealed victory in added time when Adam Le Fondre netted his 20th goal of the season.
