Accrington receive tax reprieve

Tax chiefs from HM Revenue and Customs have revealed that a compromise could be reached over paying back the club's crippling debt. This could allow Stanley to repay the unpaid tax bill in instalments and avoid having to find all the cash before the High Court hearing on June 10. Dave Gostelow, of HMRC, told the Lancashire Telegraph: "As part of a substantial package of support the Chancellor announced in the Pre-Budget Report in 2008 that HMRC has introduced a new business payment support service to help businesses that are unable to pay their tax. "Businesses in genuine, but temporary financial difficulty are being offered a fast and streamlined service for arranging to pay their HMRC tax bill to a timetable they can afford. "We are sympathetic to businesses experiencing cash flow difficulties and when appropriate will allow time to pay on a case by case basis. The vast majority of businesses pay their tax on time and we owe it to them to ensure that those who pay late do so only when they have good reason."
