Hughes, 22, had been training with Stanley at their camp in Essex after turning down a new deal with his former club Northampton.
Stanley assistant manager Jimmy Bell revealed the club had offered Hughes a contract, but he penned a deal at the Banks's Stadium on Wednesday.
