Knee surgery rules out Nesta

AC Milan's veteran defender Alessandro Nesta is set to miss the rest of the season after being forced to undergo surgery on his injured right knee.

The 33-year-old was injured in last weekend's goalless draw with Roma and missed the 4-0 Champions League midweek defeat at Manchester United, with tests revealing a torn tendon in his knee.

A short statement on the club's official website confirmed: "Alessandro Nesta will be subjected to a surgical operation on Monday 15 March."

Nesta had said ahead of the weekend action: "In the next few days I will evaluate whether or not to undergo surgery.

"Is my season over? I don't know. Even if I were to undergo surgery I could still come back before the end of the campaign."
