Becks bemoans missed chances
17 Feb 2010 - 09:02:27
AC Milan midfielder David Beckham admitted a host of missed first-half chances were to blame for the Rossoneri's 3-2 home defeat to Manchester United in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie at the San Siro.
The former United star set up Ronaldinho to give Milan an early lead but from then on was a largely peripheral figure as Wayne Rooney led the visitors to a fine victory.
Ronaldinho, Alexandre Pato and Klaas Jan Huntelaar all wasted good chances in the first 45 minutes before United took control thanks to Paul Scholes' fortuitous equaliser and Rooney's second-half brace.
England international Beckham said: "If in the first half we'd scored the goals when we had the chances, then it would have been a different game.
"But we didn't and Manchester United are a very good team and Wayne Rooney is a very good player."
Clarence Seedorf pulled a late goal back for Milan with Beckham commenting: "Clarence's second goal has made it possible. It's not easy to go to Old Trafford but we've made it a bit better for ourselves.
"If we'd come off the field having lost 3-1, then we'd have been more disappointed."
