Top players have been visiting Italy and AC Milan striker Antonio Cassano in hospital as he recovers from a mystery illness, described in some unconfirmed reports as a possible ischaemic stroke.

Injured team-mates Pato and Luca Antonini, who hadn't travelled with the rest of the team to Belarus for Tuesday night's Champions League clash against BATE Borisov, visited Cassano.

So too did former Sampdoria team-mate Giampaolo Pazzini, now at Milan's rivals Inter Milan, as well as now-retired former Inter fan favourite Marco Materazzi.

"He looked better than I expected," said Pazzini.

Cassano was taken ill on Milan's return from Rome in the early hours of Sunday morning, following a 3-2 win over Roma, and the 29-year-old was admitted to the Policlino hospital in Milan.

He was suffering from difficulties in his speech and movement.

In hospital Cassano was transferred to the neurological department where he was to undergo tests on his heart and brain.
