Mihajlovic ready to do more damage to Napoli's title hopes

Sinisa Mihajlovic feels his improving AC Milan team have what it takes to knock Napoli while they are down.

The Azzurri last weekend surrendered control of the Serie A table to Juventus after losing 1-0 to the reigning champions in Turin.

Napoli already have an opportunity to reclaim first place by beating Milan on Monday night, as Juve were held to a goalless draw in Bologna on Friday and sit only two points clear at the top.

But the Rossoneri have their own targets to worry about at the Stadio San Paolo and head coach Mihajlovic believes it is an excellent time to visit Naples.

He told a pre-match press conference: "Napoli always try to impose their own brand of football on the game, and that stadium is like a cauldron.

"It will certainly be difficult, but we know where we can hurt them. We know that Napoli are really dangerous on the counter-attack and that it will be bedlam at the San Paolo, but we are not afraid.

"Napoli have been playing well and maybe have the best attack in the division.

"We, however, have found our feet. We've improved and will continue to improve."

Irrespective of the result they achieve on Monday, Milan cannot yet reach fifth place. They are nine points shy of the nearest Champions League berth.

Philippe Mexes, Rodrigo Ely, Jose Mauri and Luiz Adriano are sidelined, but French forward Jeremy Menez is set to make his first start of the season after recovering from injury to appear as a substitute against Genoa last Sunday.

Napoli are only missing fringe midfielder Alberto Grassi and will hope their 25-goal striker Gonzalo Higuain can get back on the scoresheet after drawing a blank at Juve and then against Villarreal in the Europa League.

Maurizio Sarri last spoke to the media in the wake of that 1-0 defeat in Spain, with the Napoli boss refusing to officially preview the Milan game after ordering his players to undertake extra training sessions at Castel Volturno.

On Thursday night he told sscnapoli.com: "Despite suffering back-to-back defeats we are not worried because we stood tall against Juve and Villarreal. I would be less happy if we'd been involved in two goalless draws having not played our best football.

"I would not hesitate even for a minute to say that I wouldn't change anything that I've done. Because we've had four games in the space of a few days we have not had the energy levels that other teams have enjoyed recently.

"I'm happy with how the team are playing and I would make the same choices all over again.

"We've almost scored 80 goals this season and you cannot call into question how hard the team have worked and what they have achieved over these last six months."
