AC Milan have revealed pictures for their new stadium in the centre of the city.

The new stadium which is being built in the Portello district of Milan, will have a reduced capacity of 42,000 compared to 80,000 at the San Siro.

According to the Milan website it will cost between 300 - 320 million euros, with the complex housing an academy, restaurants and a hotel.

Lead architect Emilio Faroldi told the Gazzetta dello Sport about his inspiration for the design for the new stadium he said: “We were inspired by the Emirates Stadium in London and the stadiums of Basel, Bilbao and Neuchatel.”

Milan wants the new stadium to be a multi-purpose venue Mr Faroldi added: “the role of the arenas in Europe and in the world is gradually changing. The stadiums are no longer meant only as a place for sporting events.”

The club is hoping to follow in Juventus lead by owning their own stadium, which has led to success on and off the field, with increased revenues and three Scudetto titles. The club hope to have the new stadium completed by the start of the 2018 -19 season.
