Willie Miller: Dons Have The Advantage

Pittodrie legend Willie Miller believes the Reds are in a great position to take advantage of other clubs' weaknesses in the coming season.

Aberdeen have brought in a new boss in Derek McInnes to pep up the club after two dire years of mundane mediocrity under Craig Brown.

McInnes has strengthened the Dons squad during the summer with several fresh faces while removing the dead wood from the dressing room.

And former skipper, manager and Director of Football Miller believes that this coupled with teams like Motherwell and Dundee Utd losing key players will put Aberdeen in a strong position to challenge Celtic next season.

Miller said: "Aberdeen are better equipped to deal with the current season than others. They’re in a decent position financially, there’s no pressure on them like at other clubs.

"You just have to look at what is happening at Hearts. Clubs in Scotland are struggling but it’s not too bad at Pittodrie.

"Yes, there is debt, but it’s being managed and the club is not in danger. They’ve invested wisely in the youth system which is paying dividends.

“Willo Flood and Barry Robson are players who would have gone elsewhere in the past because Aberdeen couldn’t afford them.

“Derek has made a number of key signings, kept most of the squad from last year and he has some good young players coming through. All of the ingredients are there."
